dimarzio breeds

I´m having a custom built guitar and i have heard some really good stuff about these pickups, but it is going to be a maple bodie so i don´t know how do they sound in maple body guitars, i mostly play metal, not extreme metal that you dont understand a word they say but like metallica, maiden, pantera and i also like to play different styles like blues rock etc..
So do you think these pickups are a good choice? can you recommend me any other pickups?

They will warm up your maple bodyed guitar. They should sound nice!

Re: dimarzio breeds

They would be a good choice for a Maple guitar. They are round and smooth and will soften off and even out any abrasive high end.

If you chose Maple for screaming harmonics and a bright cutting pick attack sound, then you would be doing the opposite with the Breeds. For that, many people like a JB in Maple with 250k pots (sort of an old Kramer recipe) or a Custom, a Tone Zone, or some other pickup that isn't as fat in the midrange. Either way the Breed neck should be fine, but the bridge will be really smooth and warm. I have an old Tone Zone (different than most for a couple reasons) and an Air Classic Bridge in the neck of my Maple bodied guitar. They're good in there, but they will soon be replaced. I will put in an Allan Holdsworth Duncan, (basically a sweeter JB) and probably an Alnico II Pro or 59N in the neck. Frankly I've grown a little tired of the TZ hiding a lot of the "mapleyness" of the guitar. I want the hard, cutting Maple sound to come through and right now it isn't. The Breed would be even worse. I'll put the TZ in some basswood superstrat or something.

So in summary, think about why you chose a Maple body and there's your answer.

Unlike Frank, I'd recommend trying a Tone Zone in the bridge position - a lovely, smooth pickup with rich harmonics which might counter some of the hard treblyness that solid Maple can produce, but like he says, examine why you have chosen Maple, what you want out of it, and base your choice of pickups on that!

Re: dimarzio breeds

No you are exactly like Frank. The TZ has been in there for a year or two, and it was my first choice to compliment the guitar. But now I want that guitar to cut like a razor. There's a strong upper midrange bark to the guitar acoustically that I absolutely love. The TZ is muting that out a bit. But I have so many guitars that I can have a few that are way off center. If this Maple guitar is rvai's only guitar or one of two or three, then the Breed or TZ bridge will indeed offer balance and versatility.

Re: dimarzio breeds

so i´m thinking that the whole body made out of maple is going to weight a ton, so since it´s a neck-thru i´m thinking in alder wings, then the d sonic and breed should sound great right?
