Dimarzio Chopper

Hi all,

I'm getting sick of my JB Jr in the middle position (between TZ and PafPro) of my 570EX. It is "weaker" in volume, and not as defined as I would like it to be.

Would like to know ANY opinions on a humbucking Dimarzio strat sized pickup. I'm currently looking for opinions specifically on The Chopper and Fast Track 1.

my 570 is basswood

Thanks all

either one. me personally, i would go for the dimarzio "area" singles. more vintage in tone, so they would fit better with the split 5 switching. more sparkle. but for the 2 your looking at: chopper. will fit better with the paf pro/TZ. you don't want it to be too agressive.

From experience, the Duncan Hot Rails is a very nice pickup. Smooth hot output, the tone is sweet.

Re: Dimarzio Chopper

I recently got back my PGM from getting refinished and a pickup change. I had a TZ, Chopper and Humbucker from Hell installed.

As I expected (based upon the tone and output data from Dimarzio), the Chopper balances well with the 2 humbuckers. My middle single coils always tend to be a little lower in output for me just because I hit them with my pick if they're too high up.

That being said, my other PGM has a TZ, PAF Joe and the Pro Track in the middle. The PAF Joe and PAF Pro are very close in output and tone so I'd recommend the Pro Track for the TZ/PAF Pro combo. I usually hate middle single coils with distortion but the Pro Track works pretty well.

yeah the Chopper is better balanced when paired with other humbuckers.

Re: Dimarzio Chopper

What I look for when matching up a set of HSH pickups is:
1) Tonal balance - I want the pickups to get progressively brighter from bridge to neck.
2) Output balance - I want the pickups to decrease in output from bridge to neck.

The Tone Zone/Pro Track/PAF Joe is a much fatter sounding set (judging each pickup seperately) than the Tone Zone/Chopper/Humbucker from Hell set. Conversely, the TZ/Chopper/HfH set is brighter and more articulate. Depending on the mood I'm in, I like one over the other some days.

All that being said, if you like your current pickups (PAF Pro and Tone Zone), I think you'll like a Pro Track in between.
