Dimarzio Chopper owners

Hi all, I'm planning a pup swap in my s470. I'm pretty set on evo2/evo, but I don't know much about the single coils. Anyone who has played the dimarzio chopper or any other high output single coil, please share your impressions. Thx.

ISCV2 is pretty sweet and a match to the Evo/Evo2 I love it...
Not ultra output but pretty nice

The Virtual Vintage solo is almost a P90 tone distorted but still single coil and sweet clean

Re: Dimarzio Chopper owners

I have a Fast Track 2 for the neck position and an Evo for the bridge in my RG760. It's pretty "hi-gain" for a single coil but it sounds sweet yet "glassy" and bright... it's 2x louder than the stock middle single coil and the original neck single it replaced. It has "bite" for a single coil but doesn't sound distorted. It's balances well with the Evo. Never tried installing it in the middle position though...

Re: Dimarzio Chopper owners

I'm a big chopper fan, but never tried it as a middle pickup. It sounds fantastic in the neck position and balance very well with the EVO2 humbucker in the bridge. in clean sound it's full and warm, distorted is excellent, loud and still with a bit of a single coil bite.

Re: Dimarzio Chopper owners

I've got a PGM301 that Patrick Sims is almost done with and the middle single coil I chose for it was a Chopper. I hope to have it back to me in a couple of weeks so I will have an opinion on it soon.

I have a Pro Track my my other PGM301 (along with a TZ in the bridge and a PAF Joe in the neck) and that pickup sound fat. It's a great mix with the other 2 pups in that guitar.

Re: Dimarzio Chopper owners

I use one in my Nocturne prototype for a neck position pup along with an Evo bridge. 27 frets so there's really only room for the two. Sounds nice and smooth like a neck humbucker should.

Iīm planning a pickup change in my 1990 S540 (H/S/S configuration)... Do you think itīs a good idea to put a Chopper in the middle AND neck positions? Other suggestions welcome...

Re: Dimarzio Chopper owners

it wouldn't be a problem to have a chopper in mid and neck, in my opinion.

Re: Dimarzio Chopper owners

I have a Chopper in mid with an Evo bridge and Air Norton neck on my RG, I love the chopper. It seems like with it being in the middle position I can make my evo a little sweeter or give an edge to my air norton, by itself it is actually better than my neck pickup for playing Glasgow Kiss haha

Re: Dimarzio Chopper owners

I put a Chopper in the neck position of my Charvel and I really like it. With distortion, it gets a nice bubbly Yngwie kind of tone and sounds a bit fuller when compared to the Humbucker from Hell (another really bright neck pickup). As a matter of fact, I like the Chopper in the neck so much, I'm going to put one in the neck position of my other Charvel.
