Dimarzio D-Activators: Review & Sound Clips

So I got my D-activators into my RG1570 today. I am very impressed with them. They sound very similar to my Schecter Hellraiser with EMGs (81 & 85) with a bit less midrange. They are very similar in output to the EMGs. They do seem a bit more colorful. I like the neck D-Activator much more than the EMG 85. No where near as muddy. They are a drastic improvement over the stock pickups (duh!). I had to dial down the distortion in my presets because I was getting some high pitch feedback at first because of the output difference. The clean tones are okay. You really need to roll back the volume a bit to get a good clean sound. They do sound quite good in the 2 and 4 positions when split, though.
I recorded a couple of quick clips so you can hear these suckers in action. The first clip is the bridge pickup. I just double-tracked the guitars and panned them left and right. You will hear a slight pause in the clip. This is where I used my Schecter with the EMGs to compare them. Then there is another pause when I go back to the Ibanez.

The second clip is the neck pickup.

I am using a PODxt direct on the Bomber model for both clips.

nice.. The Uberschall model is the best thing in the PodXT well worth the $100 alone.

Hmmm.. Interesting... I'm hoping someone can do another comparison between the D-Activators and the EMGs, but with the 18v mod and running through a tube amp.

I'm very tempted to try a set of the D-Activators myself right now... if not, at least the bridge with something else less buzz-saw like in the neck.

Thanks for the review.

The bridge pickup sounds tight for metal sounds. How does it do for slightly warmer, less fizzy tones? Do you think it would make a versatile pickup?
