Re: DIMARZIO DP101 wiring
Okay so Now Im confused. .......... ugh .... SO I need to hook it up in SERIES? to get full power from it? I'll worry aabout the neck later. Just wanna atleast get the KA working normal.
What if I were to bypass the 3 way switch altogether & Just have VOL. only? would that make hooking it up any easier where i get both working together?

Just follow the wiring on the diagram for the KA. Don't worry about the series/parallel discussion, we got a little sidetracked.

Re: DIMARZIO DP101 wiring
Got it. As of ight now the pickup is Installed. Had to widen the route hole for the wires to go thru to the pickup cavity. They didnt intend for 3 sets of wires to go thru haha. but thats all done. Will tackle the wiring when I have my next day off. Cuz I think it will be quite a job.

Re: DIMARZIO DP101 wiring
Oh........and BTW......If Im understanding it correctly, I was thinking I had 3 humbuckers to wire in .....and even though there Are 3 sets of humbucker wires, The Pickup 1 Hot wire is the only one that goes to the pot. The other lead from pickup 2 goes Green on pickup 1 & taped off, according to instructions, so ......I SHOULD be good with just the 3 way switch & I hope it runs in series, where its full power. Hopefully.

Re: DIMARZIO DP101 wiring
well, Its friday morning & anticipation was killin me, so even though I have to get going & get to work, I killed off a few minutes of doinga quik rough direct wiring job right to the output & used the trem grnd wire as common ground connected to output ground.
I must say , Im not blown away, although I do notice an improvement in overall tone & fullness. That difference is worth it to me. My roommate walked in & said it sounded better as soon as he came in the house & heard it. Only played it on 2 on my 80 watt solid state thru 2 carvin 12s but it sounded good. - Tonight Im gonna see how it sound running parallell .......thats where ya run both hot leads to the same output if Im not mistaken. Learning this optional wiring stuff as I go. Im used to hooking it up traditionally. Its a noticable improvement. :-)

Re: DIMARZIO DP101 wiring
Update as of 12.22.12
My first time using a multimeter to test picup ohms ......... On the Dimarzio dp101 (an old discontinued pickup) The ONLY reading can get is positive to RED & negative to blk & white wires tied together ,which gives me about a 8 reading. (with red needle to red wire & blk needle to bare wire I get Nothing) ....so can someone tell me what this results tells me as far as how to wire this up? Should I make red go to switch & blk & white be the ground?

Re: DIMARZIO DP101 wiring
you need to have the red to red and black lead of the multimeter to both the bare wire and green wire.
So wire the bare and green together then check. You should be around 13 ohms if i am not mistaken.
the standard way to wire the pickup would be the red wire to the switch. Black and white together but not connected to anything and the bare and green soldered to the ground.

Green? gonna have to see if I can find this pickup on the dimarzio site. Green probably gets taped off,not sure. But My huge issue will be how to hook up the Motherbucker(2 humbuckers on one plate) AND this Dimarzio to a 3 ways switch somehow. Im thinking just run both Motherbucker leads onto one Lug at the switch, maybe.
If it's a four conductor: red, black, white, green plus bare--it gets wired like all other DiMarzios.
Green and bare are grounded to bottom of pot, black &white connected together and red goes to switch.

Re: DIMARZIO DP101 wiring
with Bare & green together, white & blk together off by themselves & red to switch ..... touch the red to red on switch & ground to bare & green wire & get a 20k reading .... wtf, this has the be the wrong number im assuming. its a way old pickup. - still cant get sound out of it though hooked up this way.

You could be picking up a few extra ohms since the pickup is wired into the guitar. I think if you were to unsolder it from the switch and pot(ground) and read it with the meter would give you something around 13 kohms. I don't believe that pickup is discontinued either because dimarzio has the DP101 listed as the Dual Sound (basically a Super Distortion that lets you split the coils).
