Dimarzio equivalent to JB???

Hi!

I have few questions...

Which Dimarzio has the most similar characteristics to SD JB?
Is there any dimarzio like that at all??

I've found Tonezone to have similar voicing to JB,but TZ has a much wider bass response while JB is tighter in bass...

I need something that sounds like JB,and how would it sound in a basswood(prestige ibanez) body?Any experiences?

Thanks,

J.

yikes, your right on the money with your comparisons of those 2 pickups. you'll be hard pressed to find a pickup that sounds like the jb in a dimarzio. the closest thing i would say maybe the breed or super3. both are similar to the tone zone with less low end. now i can attest to how awesome the super3 is in basswood. i own 2 guitars with the super3. both are basswood. an hm strat and rg770dx. they own. i wouldn't say jb like, but the then again, they are quite a bit louder than the jb as well.

NORTON
not the air version but the regular norton
it is actually dimarzio's JB in that it covers a lot of styles and has mega harmonics like a JB
it is definitely the closest to a JB and to me even better
it is dimarzios hidden jem pup in that many dont even know how great it really is!
I have one and it rocks on alder or basswood

JB is a distinctive pickup and i don't really hear any dimarzios that capture what it does. the jb is a love it or hate it type of pickup. you'll hear a lot of complaints in the SD forum about it's 'harsh' upper midrange spike. some have even characterized it as being like an 'icepick'. others claim this is what gives the jb it's vocal-like quality.

i personally love it, but it seems to shine more in soloing than rhythm, especially if you are going for that scooped rhythm sound. i think the output is similar to a tone zone, but that's where the similarities end imo. there's a lot more sparkle (due to more highs and upper mids) present in the jb whereas the tone zone is very bassy and lower midrangy. and the tone zone sounds 'warmer', while the jb sounds more 'crisp'. in the wrong guitars, warm becomes 'muddy' and 'crisp' becomes 'icepick'. so keep that in mind.

actually, the only pickup i could think of that really comes close to the jb in terms of eq voicing is the fred, although it's much lower output.

from what I've been hearing the new Dimarzio Mo' Joe is very similar to a Seymoud Duncan JB.

I think the D Sonic sounds a lot like a JB as well, except that the D Sonic has better bass. JB tends to sound a bit thin on basswood, and D Sonic seems to deal with this pretty well.
I prefer the D Sonic over a ToneZone. I feel the bass and mid is a little overkill on the TZ. Some described the D Sonic as a cross between the TZ and Steve's Special, is it has the characteristics of both but not too much of either.

Bare Knuckle Pickups make a model called the Holy Diver which is very close to the JB but without the annoying harshness in the peaky mids.. great pickup.

^Holy Diver, lmao, awesome...

DSonic cross b/w TZ and SS? Wow talk about both sides of the spectrum, my interest in this pup is really sparking.

And every listening of Suspended Animation makes it worse...
