Dimarzio Evolution 7 problem
Happy new year!
I play with Ibanez Universe 2003 model with Evolution 7 (bridge), Blaze single (middle) and Air Norton 7 (neck).
My current rig is Ibanez=> Dod YJM or MXR Zakk Wylde (booth are just for boost on the overdriven channel)=> Marshall Jcm602(All tube amp) => T.c Electronic G-major in Marshall's serial Loop. Gain on the overdrive channel on my marshall have values from 1 to 20. When i play with booster and the amp's gain is even on 6-8 and booster is set to pretty low boost (little gain and 1/2 output) i get very strong non control squeal (with certainty this is not a natural feedback). Without booster on higher volume settings and more gain i have this problem too. I said to myself ok, lets try this without effects, boosters and with some other amps, cables and guitars. I try this: Ibanez universe (evolution7 bridge)=> Planet Waves Cables=> Marshall TSL602. On high volumes i get that squeal again, I must point that i get that squeal only when i play on Bridge pickup (Evolution 7). I try to play with another guitar 6 string but with same bridge pickup (evolution) with same setup (Planet Waves Cables=> Marshall TSL602) The
squeal wasn't there (to my ears a little more and will squeal). When i play with this 6 string guitar on my amp (Jcm602) the squeal is there. OK, my thoughts are 2 different guitars, 6 & 7 strings both made from basswood and both with dimarzio Evolution/evolution 7 squeal on marshall jcm602, but only 7 string squeal on marshall tsl602. I try another two guitars (ibanez 1527 basswood , stock ibanez V7-7 & V8-7 pupps; American fender stratocaster with duncan humbacker on the bridge) Both don't squeal on Jcm602 or tsl602 no matter what are the amp's settings, with or without booster.
То generalize the story:
Ibanez Universe (basswood, Evolution 7 on bridge) squeal on high gain and volume settings (i know what is feedback from overdriven/distored amp and this is definately not that case) on Tube marshalls (JCM 602 and TSL 602).
Ibanez 1570 Prestige (basswood, Evolution on bridge) squeal on high gain and volume settings only on JCM602.
Ibanez 1527 (7 string) basswood, stock ibanez V7-7 & V8-7 pupps; American fender stratocaster with duncan humbacker on the bridge. Both don't squeal on Jcm602 or tsl602 no matter what are the amp's settings with or without boosters.
What do you think it might be the problem?
I'm wondering maybe to buy less hotter pickup ? (Paf pro 7 is not for my taste)
My choice would be Tone Zone 7 or Maybe Blaze bridge. When i play i use a lot of Volume pot so i look for pickup which break nice when i lower the guitar volume on overdriven amp.
I play instrumental rock/hard rock/ progressive, Jazz, Blues and little bit of a metal (Satriani, Vai, Andy Timmons, Guthrie Govan, Dream Theater and etc.).
To be honest i like my sound very much right now but that squeal make
playing live or rehearsal impossible with this guitar.
Mario.

Re: Dimarzio Evolution 7 problem
I tried boss ns-2 but i was very disappointed from the results. I lost my sustain on low volumes. When i turn the volume down (from 4.5 below) from my guitar volume pot i've got no sustain at all , even at lowest NS-2 setting.

Re: Dimarzio Evolution 7 problem
Kinda odd you're having this problem on the UV... I had an Evo7 on my UVGR a few years back as well as an Evo on one of my RG's but I was getting this "squeal" you're pertaining to on the RG.
You can try lowering the bridge pos and/or poles to see if it helps...
otherwise, check into an ISP Decimator.

Re: Dimarzio Evolution 7 problem
I tweak the bridge position with hope to find "no squeal spot" but unfortunately with no luck, the problem is still here. Thank you for advice Reg.

Mario
maybe the pickup needs to be potted again. y'know? like get a tech to take it out and dip it in wax again to seal it up. dimarzio does that at the factory, but maybe somethin went wrong on yours...

Re: Dimarzio Evolution 7 problem
Get a competant tech to re-install both evo's, sounds as if they are badly soldered, or wired wrong completely to me, Not the amp or fx as other guitars do it, Only the 2 evo's.
Process of elimination is, it's the Evo's badly installed imo, dry/dirty/crappy solder job can make ALL sorts of bad **** happen m8
Also double check Evo pickups height, to close to strings can have a major impact also (someone else has mentioned this already)

Re: Dimarzio Evolution 7 problem
The problem was solved, a friend of mine sell me a brand new Evo 7, i replace the pickup and everything is ok now. Jem7RB MK, unfortunately i tried everything, from soldering to meаsuring the output. It looks like normal pickup but squeal like hell ;-)
Thanks all of you for replies.
