Re: Dimarzio Evolution set question

Yes, I bought a set of Evo's from Siegler music on E-Bay for $168. A great deal! And the dealer is Top notch to deal with. The problem though, the middle p'up, the ISCV2, was crap. I have a hard time believing that Mr. Vai would actually use this setup! The bridge and neck p'ups sound unbelievable!!! But the middle single coil was a disaster, it had so little output and sounded so 'Straty' that it didn't mix with the humbuckers at all! I sent it back and ordered a super distortion-S for the middle to balance the p'ups. Which is what I was looking for in the first place. I don't seem to hear much about any H-S-H setups, so it's hard to get much feedback. I also own among others, a S540 RLTD black that seems pretty rare because I never see anyone talking about them much. Any one else own one? I'd like to see a couple others.

Thats actually the ideal. The middle single coil is supposed to sound straty.

Re: Dimarzio Evolution set question

I guess I don't get it about the strat sound p'up. It didn't blend at all with the other H'buckers. Isn't the idea to be able to blend the different p'ups at the right times to change the sound and dynamics to fit the right situation? that's what I had in mind, and I have to say, SUCCESS! I just got the pickup replacement in the mail today and immedietly installed it along with the two Evo 'buckers. I replaced it with a 'Super distortion S'. I wired it with two mini switches for coil splitting, one switch to split the bridge p'up and the other splits both the middle and the neck p'ups. The outputs match up perfict, and the combanations are unbeliveable! It's amazingly versitile.
