dimarzio HFH in the neck

has anyone here tried this? i've played teh samples on dimarzio's site but that doesn't help alot. i'm set on a PAF pro in the neck of my 570 for the time being but i'd like to flirt with some others. no sense in settling ya know.

dmz says it's a screamer in the highs. i'm wondering how it would sound on super high gain in the neck maybe to balance out the brightness.

any links or ideas?

It has a higher output than the PAF 7 and that's what KoRn uses in their 7's so it would sound great with high gain no matter what position you put it in.

Re: dimarzio HFH in the neck

I have a camo one in the neck of a S-470, unbelievable harmonics for a neckpickup.
Of course, having harmonics at full in the Zoomboard helps, but still

Re: dimarzio HFH in the neck

the hfh is my favorite neck pickup. It is clear but surpisingly full, and cuts very well. The pickup isn't shrill at all.

Re: dimarzio HFH in the neck

i have it in my sc620
the pick up is amazingly good in clean and crunch, lot of "snap" or twang if you like, lot of definition both on chords and solos.
with High level of gain it's smooth on the bass side and looses a bit of definition, but on the highs it's still loving!
so far i like it very much for clean crunch and hard'n'heavy distortion!

no, the d'activator bridge is pretty loud and hot with a brighter tone. I would say that the pickups would contrast well.

Re: dimarzio HFH in the neck

I have a S-470 with a camo one in the neck and a Bare Knuckles Warpig in the bridge(Blue Velvet in the middle), and I was skeptical too, the Warpig has around 4 times the output, but to my pleasant surprise it works very well. Of course switching to bridge tends to be kinda brutal, but not too often(and not in hi-gain settings) simply because the Warpig sounds so good and rounded with that full bass, it's actually the best sounding bridgepickup for cleans I've ever played. (I expected the typical curse)
The contrasts are most useful, volumeadjustingwise, cuz' I like the instant power of switching to brigde, and using the Blue Velvet, often combined, for backgroundstuff or whatever, really. Or the HfH of course, but that's more for solos and jazz for me, I really like the Blue Velvet for rhythm, the midposition is way underestimated if you ask me.
The HfH and the Warpig is actually an excellent combination, you will however need a boost if you have been chugging away in the brigde and want to do a louder necksolo, but even that is brilliant, so it should be ok.
