Question

Dimarzio in Mahogany

Hey guys I have a S470dxqm and as you might know it is made of mahogany. I was just wondering how will the Evo2 bridge and an Evo neck sound in it? I read one review and it said that it did not sound good at all but that was only one.

Thanks for the help! Garrett

Re: Dimarzio in Mahogany

Send an e-mail to DiMarzio. They are usually pretty good at answering if the pickup will have good definition and stuff like that I would imagine it would be very strong in the mids though...both mahogany and EVOs have strong mids...or that's what I've been reading. Don't take my word on it Before buying a S, I wanted to know if I could plug a FRED/PAF Joe combo on it, and they answered in about 2 hours. They did advise against the Mo'Joe though.

They havent answered one of my emails for over 2 weeks now, I've even re-sent it once or twice... I wonder why.

Any chance they're replying and it's ending up in your spam/junkmail folder? I've emailed them a few times this year and always got a reply within a day... thought one did go in my Gmail spam folder & I didn't catch it for a few days.

I emailed them at their tech@ address if that matters.

I didnt like the Evo2 in my Schecter (Mahogany)... It was very tight... trebly... thin... extremely articulate... not harsh though.

Re: Dimarzio in Mahogany

They have crappy CS. But, I liked the first EVO in my LP. It rocked. But it is thin sounding. The Surh Aldrich is fatter/fuller sounding, and still has that high mid crunch.

Re: Dimarzio in Mahogany

I have two identical RG-shaped guitars (mahogany, maple neck, ebony board, Floyd, 24-3/4" scale), one with an Evo & one with an Evo2... and like the one with the Evo2 much better. Can't help on the neck though because they both have crappy single coils.

I also have an RG7321 with an Evo 7 and think that sounds closer to the 6-string with the Evo2, than the 6-string Evo. I don't know how much of that has to do with the differences between Floyd/fixed, ebony/rosewood, mahogany/basswood and 24.75/25.5" -- but I have heard others say the same thing before.

I'll eventually swap the Evo out, so I can compare something else to the Evo2, maybe a Tone Zone. I like being able to do it that way, where I can go back and forth between them... otherwise, I don't think I'd notice as much of a difference just switching them out in the same guitar.

Re: Dimarzio in Mahogany

I've always received quick response to emails from Dimarzio even on weekends. They have exchanged pups that have been installed and soldered and did it fast. Gotta disagree with the crappy CS comment. IMO to find the right pup you have to try a bunch of them in your own rig. Recycle the duds on the bay and consider the cost the price of education.
