Dimarzio Paf Pro Fred in a PRS?

Hi all,

After a very unfortunate and very aggravtating accident my project guitar has snuffed it, edge bridge and all - never underestimate children/cats around your guitars (yes i should have known better!!)

i'm now after another guitar, i've got another ibanez so looking to try something different. I've still got the pickups etc and wondering if anyone has tried a paf pro or fred in a PRS or other guitars, and what the results were? same thing as if in an ibanez?

the PAF pro is a very transparent pickup, it really reflects the character of the body / neck woods of the guitar its fitted into, I love em and I reckon (ive never tried it) that they will sound great in a mahogany PRS with a maple top..
having said that I just serviced/repaired a PRS with the dragon pickups in it and they were very nice indeed !

yeah that should be cool they are after all based on the same design as the origional patent applied for gibson humbuckers. A fred can get a little squeeky though at times, but it should'nt be a problem in a mahogony bodied axe. Depends on what style you intend to play too.

It should be fine, but a more versatile combo IMHO is PAF PRO (N) / NORTON (B)

oohhh god no, definatly not a norton in the bridge. It is only my opinion but paf pro on the neck, fred in the bridge coil taps on to them.... everything you will ever need! i own a js with that config. It goes from strat to les paulish depending on whats on or off. I'd go ahead, i think you'll be pleasently surprised.

Re: Dimarzio Paf Pro Fred in a PRS?

norton in the bridge is subjective, ive done it with a paf 36th anniversary in the neck and it was a good combo, not good enough to keep it in the guitar though as I needed more power..
fred PP is a tried and tested combo as is mo joe paf joe..

in fact, teh paf 36th is my fave neck pickup ever, even better than the paf pro, you just got to find a pickup for the bridge that compliments it better than the paf 36th bridge model if you want to play rock...

sorry, bit off track there but as far as combo's go, most of them will work, I tried a breed neck in the bridge too and that was ok.. oops, did it again.

going way off piste.... is the 36th worth replacing a standard paf for? is it that good? bearing in mind i'm quite fond of both the air norton and paf pro? Hang on.... Why am i asking questions now? lmao

A FRED with a 250K pot sounds great. No screech!
