DiMarzio Paf Pro installation

I've just installed the green PAF Pro that I got off Homebake today. It's apparently out of a JEM (green pickup). We've assumed that it's a bridge one as the wiring on it was quite short, and there is an "F" printed on the back, along with V 1, and the Made in the USA DiMarzio bit.

The wires were grouped as a white/black, Green/Black, and Red.

I installed it in my RG550 20th Ann guitar. I connected the red to the same point as the red wire on the pickup selector, the white/black combo to the white wire on the pickup selector, and the green/black to the pot.

Now the pickup is functioning and everything, I just want to make sure the wires are comboed together in the right order for regular series wiring. Also, I'm not sure if I've physically installed the humbucker the right way around. The writing on the DiMarzio is upside down compared to the V series the guitar came with. By that I mean the writing is up the right way if the headstock is pointing to the ground, and the Ibanez labels are the right way up if the neck is pointing up.

I hope I've made sense and thanks in advance for your replies.

Hi, the wiring seems correct. With a PAF IMHO I don't think it makes much of difference due to the fact that both humbucker bobbins being the same output but, you placed the humbucker upside down... It should be easy to turn it around as long as you left enough wire, if not and you are unhappy with the looks of it, unsolder and resolder again but this time place the humbucker correctly.

Regards,
Nelson

Re: DiMarzio Paf Pro installation

So both bobbins are exactly the same? If that's the case then I'll just the pickup as is as long as my wiring is ok.

My other question is whether or not this is an F spaced bridge pickup. The 'F' on the bottom of the pickup would indicate this? I'm just hoping that I haven't ended up with a neck pickup in the bridge.

well, the green set i bought was from a jem777vbk, so they should all be F-spaced. for RG's and jems with 43 nut width etc, both bridge and neck will be F-spaced. i know the neck PAF pro i used is F-spaced.

by the way, i followed this diagram. should be exactly the same for most/all RG's;

Re: DiMarzio Paf Pro installation

No worries, thanks for that. I was trying to find a wiring diagram last night, but in my sleepy haze I couldn't find one to confirm if I had wired it correctly.

Now that it's day time I'll be able try it out through my amp at a reasonable volume. I'm probably too used to the output from my EMG guitars, so I may need to play with my eq settings, etc.
