Dimarzio pickup color swap?

Pardon the idiocy, but can you swap the plastic pieces in dimarzio pickups for ones with different colors?

Thanks!

Are those stickers or plastic?

And are the stock pickups on an 80's RG550 F spaced or regular?

Thanks!

it depends what year. i think DiMarzio started making F-Spaced pickups in 1990, thereafter Ibanez and other makers stock pickups were F-Spaced.

It's for a 1987 RG550. So then I need regular spaced?

No. I have an F-spaced Steve's Special in the bridge and a standard Air Norton in the bridge.

Yup, I got that for replacement.

But to put these http://www.universaljems.com/cart/bobbin.htm
on my stock pickups, I need regular ones or F spaced ones or one of each?

Now I have heard of people painting their bobbin toppers, but have no idea what they used or how they did it.

Re: Dimarzio pickup color swap?

I think you can send them in to Dimarzio and they will do it for you. Cheaper than buying a new pickup

Dimarzio will not exchange a pickup for a different color. They also cannot just replace the bobbins because they are integral to the pickup.

If you don't like the color of your pickup you have (3) options:

1) Bobbin toppers, which is the least expensive solution.
2) Get the bobbins painted. I don't know the exact process for doing this but I know a luthier that does. He's painting the pickups on a guitar he's making for me. PM me for more info.
3) Buy new pickups and keep the old ones or sell them.
