Dimarzio pickup help

hey guys, I need your expert advice. I've been using emg 81/85 setup in my eclipses for a long time. I just got an Ibanez s620exfb and wanted to put a similar sounding setup but staying passive using Dimarzio pickups. I play in a cover band that ranges from classic rock to modern hard rock. Any suggestions will help as I have no clue about passive pickups. Thanks.

Re: Dimarzio pickup help

Open up the DImarzio website.
Go to Humbuckers.
Close your eyes, wave your finger around, then put it down.
Open your eyes and the one you chose should be the pickup for you.

Also, at the bottom of the dimarzio website, there is a thing called "pickup picker." Click that and go through and it should tell you what you want.

EMGs in passive mode are the D Activator pickups, it even describes that in the description of the pickup.

Yousef is right. Closest passives are going to be the D-activator series. If you're looking for overall highest output though, you'll probably be interested in the X2N as well

+1 on the X2N. I have one in my Ibanez S540, and I love it! Very hot

I've been narrowing things down to...

Evo 2 or crunch labs bridge

and air norton or liquifire neck...

Hard decisions...

Re: Dimarzio pickup help

i know its the hardest decision to make... "choose a pickup"... i wish it could be easier...
but the D-activators are simple active sounding pasive pups... your options are way far from your first question... but as you know when your lurking for something the somethings always changes...
good luck and tell us what did you choose at the end

Re: Dimarzio pickup help

Well...been thinking lately...and i might just pull the plug and try and stick with the 81/85 i'm used to and somehow find some space to cram the battery in. Since lately, i've been little down on cash so i can't afford to buy some pickups and then realize i don't like them. Still not sure yet...I have a couple gigs to get the money for them so still a week or two to make the decision. This is the first time messing with passive pups since twelve years.

Re: Dimarzio pickup help

What guitar are you using? EMGs are great, as long as you know how they react differently compared to passives, and eq your amp accordingly. Plus the 18 volt mod for EMGs makes them even more amazing.

Re: Dimarzio pickup help

Well, in the end bought my usual 81/85 setup. Package is on its way. Now to figure out a spot for the battery.

Re: Dimarzio pickup help

You should be able to fit one 9 volt battery in the electronics cavity, it's just a tight squeeze. Should be right though.
