Dimarzio Pickup Question/Wiring diagram.

Hey there. I have a Tone Zone in the bridge pos. A Fast Track1 in the middle,and a Multibucker(Fast track and Chopper in one) in the neck. Basically I want to be able to do the following pickup configuration:
pos. 1=Tone Zone (bridge)
2=Tone Zone and Fast Track1(bridge and middle)
3=Fast Track1(middle)
4=Chopper(neck "A")
5=Fast Track1(neck "B")
I'd like to be able to accomplish this with ONE five-way switch. I want to be able to utilize the middle on its own,and each of the Multibucker p.u.'s on there own.I'm told it's possible but I need a 4 or five pole deal. Can anyone give me some help? Maybe a schematic? Part #? Thanks guys.

This is very much possible. It is not so different from the normal JEM schematic that you will find in the tech section on this site. Actually position 1, 2 and 3 is exactly like in a JEM. Position 4 and 5 is different.

What switch do you have? YM-50? VLX91? The trick is to know which lugs are conneted in each position of the switch. Draw this up on a paper together with the pups and it isn't too hard to figure out where the wires go to get the connections you want.

Thanks SalemB. Yeah actually 1,2,,and 3 are standard configuration. But what I'm goin for is being able to use the Chopper side of the Multibucker on position 4,leaving out the middle.And the Fast track side of the Multibucker on position 5,also on its own. In other words a different Humbucker on pos.1,3,4,5. I'm using a Dimarzio strat switch. It has two poles. A tech I know said it can't be done with this switch. He says I need a 4-pole.??? Another guy told me that I can do it with the standard switch. I don't know.

dumdithinkrumdidumdithinkdirumthinkdirum...

I think you should be able to do this. If it weren't for position 2 you'd only need a 1-pole switch. I'll see if I can make a graphic out of this. The switch should have 12 connection points, right?

I think I was wrong Salem. It has 8 conn. points. Is this indeed a single pole? Part# Dimarzio ep1104.Thanks.

p.s. I also found a YM-50 in my toolbox

times like this i wish i were better versed in wiring

have you considered adding a mini-toggle to allow the neck humbucker to be available as a bucker and using the mini-toggle to split the coil for your use? this could allow more options w/ a standard 5-way. That is very simple.

what you want, i'm not certain this can be done. ONe way would be to alternately ground out (ie. turn off) the single coil of the neck PU in positions 4 & 5. But you have to draw the diagram allowing hot output of each coil of the multi-bucker and that is where the confusion is... glen

Glen is correct. This can not be done with a standard 5-way.
With the standard 5-way switch (like those found in most JEMS) positions 2 & 4 utilize the center pickup.

The only way you will be able to isolate the different coils of your multibucker is to use one of the following methods:

1. A multi-pole 5-way. If you email DiMarzio with what you want, they will send a diagram. They're very cool that way.

2. Use an on-on miny togle for position 5. Don't know how you would setup position 4, but it would be a solution. See #1.

Thanks alot guys. Jemsite, I currently run the Multi with a three-way splitter/tap. That's what I want to get rid of though. I'll leave the little toggle switch in though cause it looks cool!! I don't use the Multibucker with both pickups on but I love the sound of them separately in the neck position. And,I'm so uncoordinated(only because I'm usually doing a pedalboard tap-dance) that I'd love the ability to get where I want to be with the flick of one switch. No push-pull gadgets or anything like that either. I dropped Dimarzio a line so I guess it's just a waiting game now. Appreciate the help!!!

I made an attempt to draw this up by using the YM-50 and believe that I found a way to do it.
Have a look at the following schematic:

The middle Fasttrack and the Tonezone are in parallell in position 2 and you have no coil split on the Tonezone. It is always connected in series.

For the record: I've never managed to get one of these to work on the first try
