Dimarzio pot question

So, I'm a bit confused, basically the volume pot in my old EDR-170 is crackling and cutting out, so it needs a replacement, I'm thinking a dimarzio (I know it's a 500k pot, and apparently dimarzios are high quality, so it makes sense) does anyone know if the Dimarzio pots are the same size as the Ibanez 3VR1C500B pots used on the 2003 edr-170? (I'm guessing they're used on other guitars too).

Thanks,

Valcian

Re: Dimarzio pot question

dimarzio pots are bigger than the mini stuff fitted OEM, the shaft is a larger diameter too.
so you have to drill the pickguard to 10mm - they are very good quality, I sell loads.

You could also make a role with sandpaper and lightly sand until the orifice allows the pots shaft to fit. It's easier and less prone to a screw up than drilling. Your call, that's how I did it on my Ibby when I changed pots.

Re: Dimarzio pot question

Thanks, the EDR doesn't have a pickguard, it's rear routed, with bevels for the knobs, true it also has a plastic body, so idk if that'll make it easier or harder to expand the holes.

My RG770 is also rear routed, I used the technique I mentioned, sanding round and round and checking for fit, it's basswood but the same principle applies.

Re: Dimarzio pot question

Not sure what knobs you have but when I installed Dimarzio pots in a couple of RG520's the course spline Ibanez knobs wouln't fit the fine spline on the Dimarzio pot so I had to change the knobs and file out the holes in the body. All said and done...it was worth the change.

Re: Dimarzio pot question

Yeah I changed the knobs and went with CTS pots, bigger sound all round I don't know how DiMarzios are but the size is the same.
