Dimarzio Question

Guys, I'm not sure if my pickup is FUBAR'ed or not, since I can't find any clips.

Well, I bought two D Activator 7's for my 1527, and something just doesn't sound right. The Bridge sounds pretty weak. I mean, it can do metal through my Blackmore, but you have to force it and it seems like the output is a lot lower than I'd expect. In fact, my Tone Zone in my RG3120 actually has more gain and output than this pickup.

Something doesn't sound right. I've moved the pickup very close to the strings and it didn't really help at all. Also, the neck version sounds a lot thicker and beefier, while the bridge sounds really weak and thin.. actually it almost sounds like its a single coil in the bridge. Is this a problem with my pickup that I should send back to Dimarzio, or just how they're built?

I'm considering buying an evo7/AN7 combo, but I don't know if my pickup is actually broken or if it's just the way it is. Can anyone shed some light/clips?

I heard it was supposed to be comparable to EMGs, but it sounds nothing at all like my EMG81 I had before.

Re: Dimarzio Question

Double check the wiring. Could be a cold solder joint, or something simple.

Well, I actually emailed Dimarzio and they sent me the wiring guide that they would use, which was a modified 7620 wiring diagram. I've completely re-wired the guitar 3-4 times, and although it was my first time soldering I don't know what the chances of a joint being cold are considering throughout all of this the neck pickup has been fine.

Is it possible that heat damage would do this to the pickup? I had a flop wiring it the first time and may have done damage.

What would I be checking for? Never used a volt meter, but my father does have one.

Re: Dimarzio Question

Sounds like a possible wiring error. If you are using the stock Cortek switch, you may have it wired in parallel.

Feel free to come post a pic of your wiring or the diagram you followed over at the dimarzioforum and I'll have a look at it (I'm there more often than I am here now).
