Dimarzio similar to Seymour Duncan Screamin' Demon

What Dimarzio pup would be sort of an equal to the Seymour Duncan Screamin' Demon? I like the Screamin' Demon, but it will not fit directly in my Wolfgang, where I believe a Dimarzio would.
Thx
Kev

I don't know Screamin' Demon, but from the Seymour Duncan mini catalog description:
"... Great low end “cabinet thunk” matched with screamin’ highs. ..."
I think that Steves' Special should be similar.

I'd say a Norton would match closely to a Screamin' Demon.

Re: Dimarzio similar to Seymour Duncan Screamin' Demon

IMHO the closest is the fred
i would know since i own a demon and a fred and about 15 other dimarzios' to compare it to! LOL~
but really the duncan is a duncan and the dimarzio is a dimarzio
the fred and demon share a few common triats thats all i am saying

Re: Dimarzio similar to Seymour Duncan Screamin' Demon

i agree with Roadstar.
i've tried them both, and while they don't sound exactly alike, among dimarzios the Fred is probably the closest to the Demon.

The new Mo'joe might also be close, but i haven't heard that one yet...

Also,
Based on specs, the breed neck is also similar to the demon...
but i havent tried the breed neck in the bridge yet so i cant say... although some people like the sound the the breed neck in the bridge.

The Demon feels a lot different than most Dimarzios. I used one on and off for about a year and I can't even find something Dimarzio to compare it to. In the end it just wasn't what I was after. Unique though, definately unique.

WHY? will the Duncan not fit in your Wolfgang?
As surely if you want a Demon - then fit one!

Theres standard spacing and F or Trembucker spacing - other than that theres very little in them.
After all the make them to fit into "standard" pickup routes........

The WolfGang pup cavites are shallow and slightly narrow for the Duncan mounting flange; most I have encountered don't want to or don't know how to re rout (dremel) this issue. Dimarzio fits but you have to carefully note pup bobbin height or you may never get it adjusted right without dremeling.

For what it is worth, I have trimmed Duncan plates to fit DiMarzio routes before. I would be trimming the pup before the guitar personally.

Yes agreed Ayrton, just sand/cut/dremel the square cornered mount of the Duncan to match the rounded style of the Dims......

Much prefereble to routing the guitar.... spesh if its a real one and not an OLP!

Then you have the sound you WANT - not a similar one.....

trim the ears or the pickup to fit. i had to do this with a duncan stag mag. a pair of diagonal cutters and a small file will get you what you want. modding a pickup is way cheaper than routing a guitar...and way less permanent.

I had to route the cavity ends of my RG1570 to accept the Evo set due to bobbin height....It isn't so tough to do and you wouldn't know unless I told you.

Re: Dimarzio similar to Seymour Duncan Screamin' Demon

that sounds more like a depth issue vs. a width issue. depth is way less noticeable and easy to cover up.
