Dimarzio Single Coils (and Polarity)?????????

I want a middle pickup to go in my RG1570 along side my lovely Breeds I recently installed. I do not understand why you cannot buy the breed single coil to match. The best thing to go with them is the Blue Velvet (reverse polarity) apparently. Is the stock Breed or Evo single coil fitted to Jem reverse polarity, I don't fully understand pickups for which I apologize.

Any help appreciated also info as to where I could get a breed single from would be great.

Thanks in advance

Tim

Re: Dimarzio Single Coils (and Polarity)?????????

I'm still fumbling my way through pickups too, but many Dimarzios have to be reversed. I put a set of D Activators in a JS and you have to reverse one of them. I had a hell of a time putting an Air Norton and a Fred in another guitar that was an HSH. In that case the two humbuckers had to be the same and the single coil had to be wired a bit different. I was very aggrivated because the import switch didn't seem to be working very well (and I think the previous owner had put a TAD BIT too much solder on everything). So we bought a new switch and tried a nice Cruiser inbetween the two and it turned out pretty badass.

I've seen a hundred different wiring diagrams and the only thing I've figured out is there is no real answer. Trial and error seem the best solution. Just keep close track of what you have tried.

If you find a good single coil, I'll see if I can crack open the 7dbk and sketch the wiring as an example for you.

I think JEM single-coils are only available to Ibanez and aren't sold through retail. You can achieve a similar result by wiring an HS-2 for single-coil operation only: black wire hot, red and bare wires ground, green and white not connected. This info came right off the DiMarzio site.

You could try Banjomikez on the evilbay.... he may be able to help you get what you want for a breed/evo single coil. Or at the least.... he'll tell you what model number it is.

The other thing to do is place a "want ad" here on Jemsite and see if someone will sell you one from a Breed set they are wanting to replace.

Anyway, you can get the wiring diagrams right off the Ibanez web site also.....

Youre DEFINITELY better off with anything but a stock Jem pickup. I put a Snickers bar in there once and it sounded better than the Jem single coil.

Call Steve at Dimarzio, tell him what you have and he'll tell you exactly how to wire it - what wire soldered where. He's absolutely WONDERFUL like that.

The Evo Single is an ISCV2 and can be had from "Sigler Music" on the bay for like $45 bucks give or take a couple dollars.......

Using what between this pickups, I'm wondering if like the Evo single ISCV2 or whatever is and the breed single they put exclusively in Jems come only reverse wound as the know exactly how they are to be used. Is it reverse wound reverse polarity or are the same thing. Is it something to do with canceling the field of the next pickup in positions 2 and 4, to make it humbucking again, if it wasn't reversed would it buzz.

aaargh, thanks for your comments thus far. I hoping to have it sorted by the end of the week so I can order something.

Cheers
