Dimarzio warranty

Has anyone here had to use the warranty on a Dimarzio pickup? I never bothered to send in the registration forms. I feel like it's not very likely that a pickup will develop a problem within five years. What are the odds that I screwed myself by not returning the registration?

Re: Dimarzio warranty

It's wire wrapped around a magnet, there really isnt a hell of a lot that can go wrong from normal use.

I know they have a 30 day return/trading policy if you're not satisfied with your pickup, but it requires you to register it. Here is Dimarzio's warranty statement via there website:

"DiMarzioŽ, Inc. warrants that its products are free from defects in materials and workmanship, and will repair or replace any part which (under normal installation and use) discloses such defects, if the product is returned to DiMarzioŽ, Inc. with all shipping charges prepaid and within five years from the date of purchase (or for cables, within the original owner's lifetime), and provided that the product, upon examination by DiMarzioŽ, Inc., discloses that it is defective. This warranty does not extend to any part of our products which has been damaged by misuse, accident, incorrect wiring, improper installation, use in violation of the instructions, tampering, alteration or repair outside of our factory."

All my Dimarzios's work fine. I have had only one pickup go bad and that was a Seymor Duncan that was way out of warranty. I'm just curios about the failure rate of Dimarzios since I'm getting quite a collection of them and didn't send in the warranty registration. So I guess the simple question is, Has anyone here ever had to use the warranty on a Dimarzio pickup?

Okay.
I personally own more than 100 DiMarzio pickup and have never had one breaking on me (except for when I put the guitar on fire, hard to blame them for that ).
And as a DiMarzio clinic guy here in Sweden have I never heard of a broken pickup either (beside some people how have killed them by cutting the wiring occidentally or pulled the cable out of singlecoils). I guess it's just really hard to break a pickup if you treat it with common sens (I never had any other brans failing on me either).

I know people who have used it to change color or type of pickup, but never to replace a broken one.

Re: Dimarzio warranty

Pickups will go microphonic. Most susceptible are the older UV pickups. Whether it's because of how they're stored or the pickups themselves is your guess, but I send at least 1 to Dimarzio every year to get repotted.
