Do the c2's and the f2's produce a good clean tone?

The C2's appear to be single coils but they are in fact humbuckers aren't they? Anyways, I was just curious as to how they sound clean.

I have two 442 Radius models, which are equipped with S2 single coils and a V6 humbucker. The S2s are definitely not hum-cancelling (stacked humbuckers). They're only silent in the 2 and 4 positions. But yes, they have a great clean, vintage single-coil sound.

You can ignore my previous comment... i need to get more sleep. My eyes are playing tricks on me today. For some reason, i read "C2" as "S2". My apologies.

We now return to your previously-scheduled discussion, now in progress.

I'm not really fond of the clean tone of the F2 it suffers like many high-ish output bridge humbuckers in that it tends to get a bit "honky" on me when played clean. But when combined in position 4 on teh switch with a C2 it's a great clean tone. It's not particularly "juicy" like a vintage strat might be, but it's a very useful clinical clean tone.

Want a great single coil sound? Take a C2 and disconnect the bottom coil. It's no longer hum cancelling on its own, but will be in combo with another single coil. And it sounds GOOD.

Problem is, if you connected two C2 pups up this way, they WON'T be bucking, since they're wound alike. You'd need to match it with a reverse wound coil. No problem matching with a regular humbucker - try both coils and pick the quiet one.

Thanks for the replies... I had a 540s years ago with them, but I really can't remember what they sounded like. That was before I really got an ear for tone. I just recentley purchased another 540s, and I am just curious as to how it will compare with my other guitars, and setup.
I will be playing it through a 1970 fender bassman 100 watt tube head, going through a 2X15 cab. Should be interesting...

This is what a lot of players do with the dimarzio hs-2 as well, like eric johnson for instance

I will see how they sound the way they are. If I am not satisfied, I will definetely try that option out.

Re: Do the c2's and the f2's produce a good clean tone?

Sorry for bringing up an old thread, but how can the IBZ/USA C1 be wired for single-coil mode? i bought one from the local Ibanez distro (it had been sitting there for years) and it has Red/Green wires and 2 black wires taped together.

Untape the black wires. That will be one end of the top coil, and either the red or the green will be the other (I forget which, but when it's apart you can see).
