Double Edge Problem

Hi,

I have a problem with the piezo saddles on a double edge bride. Seems lik ethey work ok then go dead in random patterns. First the low E saddle died, then later the top 3 saddles don't work.

Can this be a wiring proble??

Where can I look? Could it be as simple as making sure the braided wire is grounded out?? Would this problem affect all saddles or cause my problem with individual saddles??

please help!!!

Cheers
Col

I have tthis system in 3 guitars but haven't really checked it out.IF the ground were bad, then none of the saddles would work.I would first try using some deoxit which can be bought at any guitar center and try cleaning up any exposed contact points on the preamp circuit board. Then let us know if tha thelps or not.

Hi!!

I opened up the guitar and had a look at the board etc.

All wires seem ok, no shorting of the braiding etc.

I loosened the saddle4s via the fine tuning screws and 5 out of six now work, just once again the low E saddle. Seems dead (( apart from a really really low output when the amp is cranked.

I also looked at the trem from the back, and I could see the small white wire seemed to have been squashed flat slightly by the saddle (must have been adjusted with the fine tuning trem screw). I must say what a bad design this seems to be...........

anyway, can I take the saddle off to see the wire??? what is the wire?? Is it normal wire or optical cable??? can I replace the bad section??

Cheers

Optical cable? Heh... no, the Ibanez Double Edge uses just plain ol' wire. You can replace a bad section. Just be careful, and take your time. Seems like maybe you found the problem.

Definitely try Pauly's idea, too. Alot of times, you can't really see the gunk/dust that disrupting your electrical system. Deoxit is about the best out there for cleaning electrical parts.

Mods, is this common enough we should sticky it somewhere?
