Duncan Distortion vs Dimarzio X2N

Which one of these pick-ups do you feel would best fit a Les Paul going through a Marshall for the best "Metal-Tone" ? Or which one works the best for YOU?!

Duncan Distortion is a very nice pickup, and I personally would take it over an X2N.

X2N is a beast. I have never tried the Duncan, but if you want a screaming pick up the X2N is it.

why not try a de-activator? if you have an ibanez dealer with an x series guitar they come stock on it

Re: Duncan Distortion vs Dimarzio X2N

i'd say X2N. Chuck Schuldiner used one(if you don't kno who he is please commit suicide). The X2N is modeled off of the L-500s that I love so much but it's not as versatile. Considering the price I'd say order an L-500XL, if you don't like it, return it, but before you return it go to GC and try other pickups, just compare and you'll notice that your pickup oddly sounds better than these pickups that cost nearly twice as much.

i've used/owned both, the duncan is more versatile, but the x2n is way more metal.

The X2N seems like it might fit my taste.

I think I'm gonna go with a Duncan Distortion and 59 in my Les Paul and throw the X2N and Tone Zone on my SG. I can go both ways now.

X2N's are brutal.

What kind of metal were you thinking? Maiden type metal, or Slayer type metal?

brutal is not a understatement
they are at 510 millivolts which is even hotter than a EMG 81 problem is they lack any real tone
the duncan has a nice barking tone and is not so hot it actually can be used for more than just metal
george lynch used them with dokken years ago and for metal max from seplutura likes them more than the 81 he originally used
with all high gain amps today no one needs a pup as hot a the X2N
that was designed for the non master volume marshalls of yesteryear !LOL

Re: Duncan Distortion vs Dimarzio X2N

here is a great underated metal pup

Invader

application: Ultra high output humbucker built for aggressive playing styles. Recommended for punk, garage, thrash, metal and other heavy rock styles.
description Designed for the heaviest tones a passive pickup can produce. The combination of three ceramic magnets, over-wound coils and twelve black oxide cap screws make the Invader an electrifying force of energy. The wide magnetic field pumps power into your amp with a totally heavy sound. Comes with four-conductor hookup cable.
complete setup Available for both neck and bridge positions - most commonly used in the bridge position. The Invader neck pickup has considerably reduced output for tonal versatility.
guitars For all instruments. The wide pole pieces work for both humbucker and Trembucker string spacing.
available mods 7-string version. Colors.
players Troy VanLeeuwen / Queens of the Stone Age (bridge), Mike Chlasciak / Halford (bridge), Whitey Kirst / Iggy Pop (bridge), Rick Jackett / finger eleven (bridge), Will Adler & Mark Morton / Lamb of God (bridge)
