Re: Duncan Full Shred

I had one in a jackson dinky. It was a really good pickup. Very hot great harmonics. Kind of reminds me of a more tame evo. Just with a little less high end. Very midrangey. I'd recommend it.

Re: Duncan Full Shred

Not as hot as the Distortion, more on the level of a Custom but with more mids and highs and a little less lows.

Re: Duncan Full Shred

very underated duncan!
i found these to be very balanced and not super high output just right actually
can do metal,rock blues,etc
it is basically a duncan custom type tone but nicer
viv campell used these for years with DIO

Re: Duncan Full Shred

full shred is a trebly duncan. great for a 2 guitar band. they really cut through. not a big fan of the rhythm tones, but the leads cut through. not as much output as a distortion, but really good. i ended up getting rid of it and putting it in a buddy's rg270dx. we did a ton of work to that axe and it's a great beater. the full shred makes that guitar fun to play.

Rich i did not find the full shred to be real trebly like say a JB or demon but i agree it has great cut in the mix

Re: Duncan Full Shred

During my "Shrapnel" years in the eighties my favorite combo was a Duncan mini humbucker(firebird pickup) and a full shred with a 500k vol pot. This was a very common pickup choice used by Bruce Bouillet, Joey Tafolla..,.etc- at high gain its way clearer than a custom/distortion/Jb. The added midrange give it a very percussive quality. It reminds me of a JB in the sense that playing by yourself it does'nt sound as good as a custom or distortion but in a band setting it cuts thru and you can really hear all the notes whereas the distortion and other super high gain pickups get blurry/mushy and often either get buried onstage or worse yet: you find yourself turning up the treble knob and getting that terrible screechy sound you hear all weekend long at the local guitar center. Sorry for the rant. YMMV.

maybe it appeared to be more trebly due to the fact that it lacked bass. the chords were alot thinner than most of the pickups i prefer. it would be a great pickup to track solos with...kinda like the evo.
