Duncan SH 5 with less treble...

I had a SH 5 installed in the bridge of my mahogany ibanez, i love PAF-type pickups, and i like the balanced MIDS and BASS (and output) in the SH 5, but theres to much treble for my taste... anyone can recommend me a different duncan? no dimarzio....

What value volume pot are you using for this pickup?

Re: Duncan SH 5 with less treble...

Try the Duncan SH-14 Custom 5 (it's an SH-5 Custom but with AlNiCo V magnets instead of ceramic).

There's also the SH-11 Custom Custom (an SH-5 with- you guessed it- AlNiCo II magnets), but I feel that the SH-11 is too warm.

Personally, I'm an SH-5 guy.

Re: Duncan SH 5 with less treble...

I recommend buying DimArzio pickups because they are awesom.... Just joking. Try the pot switch to 250k first if it doesn't work out then try using the SH-14 but I do think it's got more of a mid scoop to it than you might like.

Although, I'd have to say I'm a DiMarzio man for life. No offense to Duncans they're good, but my DiMazio's nailed what I was looking for.

some alternatives: 250K pot, a low pass filter, SH-14, SH-15 or be more open to other brands (duncans have in general a lot of treble)

Yes, Custom 5 is excellent, or maybe the Custom Custom. That one seems to be a little "deeper" and doesn't have as much treble as the Custom 5.

Re: Duncan SH 5 with less treble...

but nor the SH-14 (Custom 5) nor the SH-11(Custom Custom) have the "balanced MIDS and BASS" that the OP tell about liking so much.
