EMG EXG question

Hi,
Ive read on the EMG site that the EXG expander can not be used with passive pickups, but Ive read elsewhere that if you fit the PA2 booster to passives then the EXG can be used. Does anybody know anything about this? If the PA2 is fitted does this mean the pickups will be active the whole time or can it be turned off still allowing the pups to be used as passives? Also if I was useing the internal version of the Seymour Duncan booster pedal instead of the PA2 would this work the same way in that I could still use the EXG?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
