EMG81 Issues

Hi guys

just last weeks i chucked in a set of emgs on my RGT, a 85 in the neck and 81 in teh bridge...however, i notice the sound goes slightly mroe powerful when i change the selector to the neck 85, and the 81 down at the bridge seems weak...

is anyone experiencing the same problem?...any fixes to this problem?...should i raise the pickup height?

right now the height of the 2 pickups are leveled

Re: EMG81 Issues

The 85 has more bass response, and a slightly higher output than the 81, so it will seem a lot more powerful than the 81 that way round.
EMGs can be set really close to the stings, so try different heights until you find the balance you want.

Re: EMG81 Issues

This one of the biggest cans of worms in the EMG user market... and I blame one man, Zakk Wylde.

I mean sure, He's a good player, and it works for him, but me personally...

EMG 81's belong in the neck, for clarity and lead
EMG 85's belong in the bridge, simple as.

Grr.

Re: EMG81 Issues

I love the EMG 81 in the bridge and the 85 in the neck. I love that the neck pickup is a little more powerful than the bridge pickup because I like it a little further away from the strings than the bridge pickup. Also, I use the neck pickup clean a lot and it's good that I can have a nice clean tone that's loud enough to still be heard over all the other instruments in my band.

I can live with them either way round.
