EMGs & Zakk Wylde

Did Zakk put EMG pups on the map. I know guitarists used them before Zakk. But did he make them what they are today or would it have happened anyway?

I would like to hear Zakk play without them for a change and use his stock LP pups.

I think next to the guys in Metallica, Zakk's not quite got the same influence, certainly around the time they were looking to be "put on the map". I'm sure he's added new fans to the range but when I was a teenager, it was the fact James and Kirk used them that mattered.

Re: EMGs & Zakk Wylde

I think it was Metallica who got them famous.

I'm wondering when did Metallica actually start using the EMG active pickups? And before that, what pickups did they use?

I heard of them through being a ZW fan. Never new what Mettalica played until a few years ago.

Metallica Played Gibson pickups before them. They both used to play Explorers and Flying V's mainly.

I take it you mean the EMG humbuckers as I do wonder how long David Gilmour has been using the single coils. He doesn't use them for the bRootZ though, more for the quiet signal going into his effects.
