EMG's for palm muting??

Hi, I'd like someone to give me some adivce on this: I've been planning to put the Zakk Wylde EMG set on my Epiphone Custom Flametop, but somebody told me that they suck for palm muting, and palm muting is a very important part of my playing, is this true??, can anyone give me some advice??

Well James Hetfield, Kirk Hammet, Kerry King, and Jeff Hanneman are all pretty apt at palm muting and all use the 81 in the bridge. The thing about the 81 when palm mutted it has a very fast attack and some players prefer the 85 in the bridge as it's less forgiving. The 81 is a very tight hot scooped bright pup. If your rythem playing is tight you'll love it, but if your stlye is more loose it can show you up. If you get the zakk wylde set which is the 81 bridge 85 neck if you don't like it you could switch them round with the 85 bridge(which is more midrangey) and 81 neck. But I totally disagree with that the 81 is sh*t for dampening, I think it can sometimes expose sh*t players. It's probably the number one pup for metal.

Look at the pickup's namesake...lol Think about how much muting Zakk does on a gig. It is usually as big h said...because of the frequencies an 81 has, bad technique does pop out if you are lacking. Usually the players who don't like them sometimes throw the comment, "They make me sound sloppy"...lol The player makes the player sound sloppy. The pickup is just amplifying what it hears...

Have to agree with everyone. I had that same setup (81-bridge, 85-neck) in my one les paul a few years back. Although I eventually decided I liked classic style passive pickups better, it was one hell of a great sound. One test I usually do to test any piece of equipment is how well it stands up to the low-power-chord-palm-mute sound. The Hatfield-master-of-puppets sound. I found the 81 was extremely tight and focused which I like very much.
