Re: EMG's in Alder?
Don't EMG's sound the same no matter what kind of guitar they're in? I thought that was the main reason why one would want to purchase active pickups.

Re: EMG's in Alder?
I've had EMGs in a maple body before and it was surprisingly well-rounded, and since Alder kind of sits in the middle of the frequency response balance spectrum (and maple sits on the brighter side), I think you'll be safe.

Re: EMG's in Alder?
I guess I could do a
Super Distortion
or Super 3 in the bridge and a
Paf Pro
in the neck. That would be aggressive enough and still not sound to bright.

Alexi uses passive EMG's, which have a different tone than the actives.

I was saying he was right by saying he used EMG's. No mention of active or passive.

Re: EMG's in Alder?
EMG
ACTIVES
sound the same in every guit. EMG
PASSIVES
sound different. Both pretty much suck though. EMG actives are quite sterile unless you do the 18v mod which could be difficult in some guitars. EMG passives lack the sterility of the actives but also the tone. Even with the 18v mod the actives are still more sterile than passives. Go with Bill Lawrence L-500s(Either C & L or R & XL). I have the latter and they are amazing for everything.

they do sound pretty much the same in any guitar , but to me really all pickups sound basically the same , i presonally dont think that body wood has much to do with it .
85 in the bridge has much more life then the 81 , yet the 85 cuts and has all the perks of active . it does much better clean as well .
here is a clip i did with the 85 in the bridge . the guitar has a poplar body and the amp is a
mesa mark
3 with legacy cab

EMG's will only suck if you don't know how to EQ properly.

Re: EMG's in Alder?
EMGs sound awesome in alder. I have an 81 in the bridge, and 89 in the neck. Each position sounds fantastic
