Question

Evolution or Evo2 in bridge of Ibanez S320 ?

I look for a pickup in the bridge of my Ibanez S320.
I play very much clean and I am interested in pickups that will sound great clean.

I am scared about a muddy sound. I really don't want anything muddy in the sound of my guitar.

I like Satriani and Vai very much this is why I already decided to go for PAF Joe in the neck.

Next I thought about Evolution or Evolution 2 in the bridge.

Most of the people go crazy about Evo2, they say it is great.

My guitar is mahogany not baswood. This might be a problem. I want clean sound in my mahogany guitar.

Either one. Evo has more output and is a bit treblier than the Evo2.

Evo2 is my main option.

Now I want to know only if there is any chance for my guitar to sound muddy with Evo2 in the bridge.

I have an Evo2 in my S2170. Its a great pup, quite tight and with the right amp its an excellent choice. If you're absolutely TERRIFIED of mud, as in 'I can't sleep at night my fear is so all consuming' terrified, then go for the original Evo. It is marginally tighter. But honestly, either will be absolutely fine and the original evo does have a little too much treble for SOME people.

I still think I will consider Evo2 my first option.

The only problem I have now is the difference between these two pups.
I know Evolution has more output and it's treblier.
What else?

Re: Evolution or Evo2 in bridge of Ibanez S320 ?

Thats about it. They're tonally very similar. THey both have midrange peaks and are very cutting tonally. THe only real difference is the Evo2 backs off on everything treblewise, so that peak is slightly lower, theres slightly more bass, and slightly less treble. All ofwhich are considered good things by most people looking for a versatile, tight bridge pickup.

Imagine plotting a graph of the frequencies produced by an evo. Now move the entire graph very slightly downwards in pitch and output. Now you have an evo2.

Thank You GuitarBizarre!
Your reply was helpfull.

As far as I can understand the Evo2 is the perfect pickup for me.
I don't like thin tones or extremly treble. I like warm tones but I am scared about muddy tones for the mahogany body of my guitar. I think Evo2 might be perfect pickup for me.

Re: Evolution or Evo2 in bridge of Ibanez S320 ?

EVO 2

You can get a variety of tones with an EVO 2 if you like rolling back on the volume to get the cleaner tones EVO 2 wins again.

EVO 1 doesn't clean up that well when you roll back on the volume.

The Evo 2 has it all the power and punch like the Evo 1 but also has a warm and gentle side.

EVO 2 is the way to go.

Thank You all !

You helped me a lot to take the good decision.

PAF Joe and Evo2, the sound kills on any kind of amp, any size.

Ultimate versatility. Can play anything clean or distort.

I think about adding graphics to my guitar.

Re: Evolution or Evo2 in bridge of Ibanez S320 ?

I live in Romania and I couldn't buy the Evo2.

This is why I ended up pairing Humbucker from Hell with Evolution (1). I use 11's strings with 1.5 step down.

It sounds gorgeous to me.

Thanks a lot guys.
