Evolution set installation

Hi, I bought a set of white evolutions from a jem vsbl a few months back but they were stored at another address so today was the first time i saw them. I'm not sure if they are evolutions. How do I know if they are? They don't have a code on them but do say dimarzio USA on one of them. What puzzles me is that one of the humbuckers says V5 and the other says V4?
Have I been fobbed off with some standard ibanez pickups in white?

Also how do I know which is the bridge pickup and which is the neck?

Many thanks

Re: Evolution set installation

I don't know, as I've never had Evos, but I do know that some of the standard Ibanez pickups (in the RG1570, e.g.), say V7 and V8 on top...

Re: Evolution set installation

Does it say v5 and v4 on the top of the pickup? or underneath where the wires are?

Re: Evolution set installation

Where does it say Dimarzio-USA? On the plate (bottom) or on the bobin?

Evo's have a black metal base-plate. The ones I've bought in stores have nothing printed or etched in the bobbins and while I don't feel like taking them out at the moment to look, on the plate is etched the model number.

Evo Neck is DP 158
Evo Bridge is DP 159

The OEM models I've seen usually (but not always) have Dimarzio printed, or etched on the bobbin on one coil of each pickup.

I'm pretty sure Dimarzio USA (printed on the bob) pups are made by Dimarzio
as OEM parts.

Re: Evolution set installation

V = Vai. 4 and 5 probably right for Evo neck and bridge. You can email Dimarzio to figure which is which [and could have just emailed them to begin with]

Re: Evolution set installation

Dude, What eveyone else said, Plus, My old set of Chrome Evo's were stamped V4andB5 iirc and DiMarzio were useless (first time i'll add) Machinhead could'nt work it out ... The boxes were just stamped Custom Order (neck/bridge respectively)

They sound right to me, just sound ODD if wired in the wrong place, and you'll soon KNOW for sure

Re: Evolution set installation

as rich said, contact DiMarzio. They're great over there about answering questions.
Be as detailed as possible in your email.

Re: Evolution set installation

The lead wires on my bridge Evo (VSBL) are trimmed about 4 inches shorter than the neck pickup.

Re: Evolution set installation

Hey guys thanks alot for the replies! Sorry I haven't been able to post in a while, i've been away. As always you guys have been a great help!

Chrome pickups sound cool, I was going to buy a set but they were all scuffed, so i opted for the white ones!

Cheers
