Actually, only the 7vwh and the 7vsbl are alder bodies. All other Jems (except for Simon's BMC ) are Basswood like your 570.

I like the Evo in the bridge, but i find it harsh in the neck - Consider a PAF or an Air Norton for your neck position. Also consider a hotter middle pickup, if you use one.

I thought the wood was gonna be a problem but I do remember some of the older jems being basswood, also can't we have one thread without the BMC being mentioned :P heheh thanks for the input.

Most (but not all) basswood Jems have either PAF Pros or Breeds. There's a few exceptions, the 10th being a VERY notable one.

How comparable would a RG-570 with Evos be to a Jem? Not at all. How comparable would it be tonally? reasonably close, but the tone is only part of what makes a Jem a Jem.

Hiya,

So what exactly does make a Jem a 'Jem'???

I'm beginning to think that I should have bought a 550 and upgraded the pickups instead of my 7VWH.

Where is the X factor?

I think the main not cosmetic difference is the neck profile and the frets size
