F-spaced how different?

Could f-spaced pu go into non floyd guitar..RG321?
would it make a bad sound or not fit in? how really different are f-spaced and regular pu?

As far as I know it's mostly cosmetic, so you should be able to use them if the poles being misaligned with the strings doesn't bother you...

Re: F-spaced how different?

f-spaced or normal spacing is the same thing - soundwise
the differencies are the cosmetic for the most, and even if there is a slight sound difference,it's not audible...
the reason people put f spaced pickups into floyd guitars is that the pickup bobbins match the width between the strings...
I had dozens of same pickups,in f-spaced and normal variant, and never heard any difference between them...

i wonder what dolphins would say...

Re: F-spaced how different?

It's a 2mm difference - 50mm spacing to 52mm spacing. Ideally you should get the one that matches your string spacing, but it'll be fine if you have the wrong one. This only applies to bridge pickups - all neck pickups are 50mm spacing.

Re: F-spaced how different?

from dimarzio.com:

"It is not necessary for the strings to pass exactly over the center of the polepieces for best performance, but it is wise to avoid a situation where the E strings are sitting completely outside of the outer polepieces."

Re: F-spaced how different?

As far as I know, the F in F-spaced corresponds for fender spacing, and floyds also follow the same string spacing, as well as most 25.5"+ scale necks i suppose, including Ibanez. Gibsons on the other hand, are non-f-spaced, ie, slightly narrower than fender string spacing.

There are actually F spaced neck pickups.

Re: F-spaced how different?

So does it mean that every Ibanez RG guitar(with and without floyd) has f-spaced pickups? So I could swap pickups on RG321(fixed bridge) with those on RG450(floyd) for example?

Re: F-spaced how different?

With a floyd, I'd say yes, F spaced of course. Without a floyd, probably normal spacing.

Re: F-spaced how different?

If you need an "F" spaced pu then I suggest trying to find one first but, if you have to settle there's no audible difference(at least none that I've heard). I've used Duncan SH4 in stead of TB4's and when I finally switched one for the F sapce(TB) I found no difference other than it looked better under the discriminating eye.

Re: F-spaced how different?

If I were you i would go with the f spaced. normal spacing is best for tune-o-matic bridges or other gibson-like things. Look at the dimarzio site, i think they know what they are talking about

Re: F-spaced how different?

I own an rg321mh and have replaced the bridge pick-up with a seymour duncan. Even tho the guitar has no trem on it, I still ordered an f-spaced pick-up. It was a very smart choice because the f-spacing allowed for all of the strings to pass directly over the center of each of the poles. My recommendation would be to go with the f-spaced versions, but again, that's just my opinion.

Re: F-spaced how different?

Will make no discernable difference due to the magnetic flux pattern radiating out from the pole piece.

F-spaced under Gibbo string spacing even less effect than the opposite.
