F-Spacing WTF ??????? looks like BS !

anyone REALLY have a clue what f-spacing is all about ?
dont quote me the blurb cos I already read it and I am none the wiser
so whats my problem? easy, I have an F-spaced (51mm pole to pole) on my ibanez RG in the bridge position BUT.... the bridge has a E-E position of 53mm....????????
I have two ibanez RG's and they are both the same dimensions..

So the question really is, why do Dimarzio (I have f-spaced evo at bridge) say that the f-spacing is suitable for all ibanez guitars when the strings overlap the pickup poles by 1mm at either side at the bridge position (the neck position is fine, i measured using a vernier)
I am an engineer by trade so this bothers me.... but, what I really want to know is.. does it REALLY matter ?

please do a search as this has been widely discussed

in short it's just an asthetic issue (a change to accomidate the wider "fender" bridge years ago vs gibson les paul).

no effect on tone/sound... glen
