First Time Dimarzio user , 500k pots? 250k?

Hey guys

If im using the following set in my prestige rg :

Tonezone True Velvet Air Norton

What kindof pots would i use? I know i need a push pull pot for a coil split , but do i need 2 push pull pots ?

And what resistance should i be using, 500k , 1 meg , 250k ? what is the difference.

Ive also just evilbayed one of thos orange drop capacitors.

Let me know guys , im itching to press the BUY IT NOW !

500k pots is pretty much standard for use with passive humbuckers no matter who makes them. I've tried 1 meg pots once and my response was somewhere in between didn't notice a difference and didn't like any minor difference that I could hear. Don't worry about the fact that you'll have a single coil in the mix, it'll work just fine with the 500k pots. Generally, 250k pots are used when a guitar has only single coil pickups in it.

You can coil tap up to two humbuckers with a single push-pull pot.

A 250 will give pickups warmth I think...and 1 megs will open them up more.

A 500K DPDT push-pull Pot (Log) will coil-split 2 humbuckers in your setup... you can replace the tone knob with another push-pull pot just for the middle-single but not quite sure if that's the direction you want to go...

I assume we're talking about the "Tone Control upgrade" caps? I got a couple of those installed in my S's and they're noticable when you roll down the knobs - volume swells sound "natural" while retaining the pups character at lower volumes; the tone cap cuts off "treble" when it's rolled to 0 (as opposed to cutting off all the highs)... they're not bad FTW but i've read they can be found cheaper elsewhere...

Re: First Time Dimarzio user , 500k pots? 250k?

Thanks for the replies dudes , much appreciated

So the final outcome was

Tonezone True Velvet Air Norton
500k Push Pull dimarzio pot(for volume and coil tap)
500k dimarzio pot (for tone)
5 way dimarzio switch
orange drop "tone upgrade"

This is going to be a fair change from the old EMGs , ive used them for like 7 years now and ive just grown tired of their sound. Tried a few of my uncles guitars with dimarzios and they seem to have a much bigger range of sounds , instead of that emg sound youd recognize anywhere.

Cant wait !

...ya might need to widen the holes on your Prestige for the DiMarzio pots (standard vs metric on Ibanez). The pots need to be short-shaft as well.
Otherwise, it'll be a fun weekend project when ya have all the parts at hand

500k for most dimarzio pickups, but I install 250kpots with my paf pros, I like to install 250k pots in the tone for vintage output pickup of dimarzio. It depends.

I use 500K pots for my DiMarzio D-Sonic and two Fastrack 1s. I like them to be a tad on the bright side you can always darken your tone up but it's hard to add good treble IMO.

I just got new pots actually and my go to tech guy actually metered the pots and showed me that most pot ratings are a general value but the pots differ quite a bit. Some are 437K or 462 or what ever and I could choose which I wanted, so I chose some that came out to 497. I like the brightness for cleans and blues.
