first time guitar builder installing emg81

hi everybody,

ive bought a new emg81 pickup for my first project but i'm going to have to make a few 'snips' and 'sticks' to the pickup connections so just before i go and make another stoopid mistake and render the pickup useless i just want to make sure i'm doing everything right.

firstly, the volume and tone controls are slight too close together to fit into the holes drilled in the guitar so i need to extend the connection between the 2 by a tiny bit, its the transister thing inbetween who's connects dont quite extend far enough. Am i ok to cut one of these connections and patch it up with a bit of soldering later?

secondly, and i'm sure this is standard practise, the jack is connected to the battery clip with a single black wire but as the body is solid (without a pickguard) obviously the clip wont thread through the wire hole in the body so i need to disconnect this as well, access to the soldered parts at either end is tricky so can i just snip it and solder it back together after ive threaded it through to the control cavity?

hope this makes sense, thanks in advance

The second one is definitely a yes if you're confident enough, its only one wire for power, so its simple. THe first question I have to admit I don't really know.. I personally wouldn't trust myself to do that but I'm sure if your soldering and clipping skills are up to snuff you can.

yeah, the main problem is the transister thing. its got 2 'prongs', one soldered to each pot but this limits the amount i can stretch the distance between the pots. i just need to extend this distance slightly so that the pots fit in the holes.
