I recently swapped out the stock ibanez pickups in my js 100 and replaced them with a
Fred in the bridge and a paf joe in the neck. I also replaced the rather poor stock tremolo with a Gotoh replacement.
I am very happy with the paf joe, but somewhat disappointed with the Fred. I find it thin and cold sounding. The volume balance between the two pickups is also somewhat off, even with the Fred close to the strings.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a replacement (not necessarily
dimarzio)? I am looking for something warmer sounding than the Fred, with a good dynamic response and clarity, and also that will be balanced with the paf joe. (note the body is basswood).
