GFS/Guitar Fetish Pickups

Anyone try their pickups? They seem to be very inexpensive and seem to get good reviews.

Re: GFS/Guitar Fetish Pickups

I have a pair of the Nashville Vintage filtertron copies, and they sound great. I put them in an Epi Joe Pass model to make a poor man's Brian Setzer, and they were a great improvement over the stock Epi pickups.
Do a forum search, you'll get more info.

Yeah they are good. For the money, you can't go wrong with the GFS pickups.

I use GFS' FAT PAF, and Lil' Killer. I've also heard good things about the "Bigmouth", and "Loudmouth" models. Those are up next on my "to buy" list.

Thanks!

Tried to do a forum search.

It came up with:

"Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.

"The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search : GFS"

How is the Fat PAF? That is one I would like to try. Any idea of the DC resistance on that one?

I've got a few but I haven't gotten around to installing them yet. I've got a couple single coils for a tele on the way (should be here Wednesday). The Fat Pole Tele pups.

Re: GFS/Guitar Fetish Pickups

The fat PAF (overwound boutique alinco) is nice. I installed a bridge version in the neck of my Ibanez SZ once and it sounded wicked. I was shocked at how good it sounded. So I put it back in the bridge position and ordered a neck model. That sounded very good but the bridge version in the neck was even better.

I got a Dream 180 with the black pearl and gold. Beautiful pickup. When i opened it i was like, "man if this thing sounds half as good as it looks we're in business." It sounded pretty good. Good for that old school eric clapton overdrive to that Extreme Metal Crunch. Sounds a lot better than the stock Ibanez pickups i had in there.

FAT PAF is close to a Duncan JB, but smoother. Sounds good in an H-S-S configuration too.

Re: GFS/Guitar Fetish Pickups

$40 for a new DiMarzio is an amazing deal. However, GFS pickups sound like they are a great value for the price. How do they stack up next to DiMarzios?

Cool

Re: GFS/Guitar Fetish Pickups

I have a set of the 59 alnico humbuckers and I think they are awesome.
granted DiMarzio's IMO are better, but you get what you pay for...

I paid about $50-ish for a set of new GFS's and $60-ish for new ONE DiMarzio.
I'm pretty sold on Dimarzio's personally, but the guitar I put the GFS's in I didn't want to drop alot of cash on.
The GFS's are great pickups for the $$$ though..

However..

If it was one of my RG's there would be no way I wouldn't put Dimarzio's in it..

Re: GFS/Guitar Fetish Pickups

sorry to bump an old thread, but I can't express how pleased I am with my GFS "Classic II" Alnico 2 Vintage wound Humbucker set.

To be honest, they are my first set of Vintage-output pickups, so maybe I don't really know much better, but from what my ears are picking up, they are absolutely marvelous sounding. Cleans are magnificent, and their online description sums up the pickup very well. The materials of the pickup feel like they are good quality.

Another thing is that they are F-spaced! I was a bit bummed thinking I would get a regular spaced to put in one of my nicer guitars, but whadduya know?! Highly recommend these. They are a great value at any price.

...or maybe I don't know anything about vintage humbuckers.

Thumbs up

Re: GFS/Guitar Fetish Pickups

The Crunch Rails rule. Tons of output and crunch. If you have been through Duncans and Dimarzios like me, then these are a nice option.
