Gibson Pickups.....

Happy New Year folks

I've had a quick look on the net.......... but as usual is full of useless info..... lots of practical everyday info on how to distinguish an early 58 pickup from a late 58 etc etc

I've always presumed the modern Gibbo pickups were the :
490R = Rhythm = Neck
498T = Treble = Bridge

The emphasis there being the letter (T or R)

Just took the pups out of a LP studio i'm selling and they both have "T" on them.
All 3 of my double cuts also had "T" on both pickups......what gives???

Re: Gibson Pickups.....

Are they old pickups, and where's the T?

If you have 'T' stamped on top of both of the bobbins, those are probably T-tops, which are a different kind of pickup.

Re: Gibson Pickups.....

No, not t-tops......

These are the modern Gibbo (i presume) 80's onwards pickups

In the middle of the bottom edge is a capital "T" - its out of a 2000+ Les Paul Double cut - the top of the "T" is slightly obscured by the solder blob!
I've seen these in loads of other 90's and 00's Les paul studios standards etc etc........

But how do you know whats what????? 490T, 490R, 498T, 500T etc etc
