Gibson Sg pickup spacing

Ok, this isn't really Jem related, but I'll give it a try.
A few years ago I bought a Gibson Sg Special. It figured that the bridge pickup wasn't hot enough so I replaced it with a Seymour Duncan Jb bridge model that I had lying around.
Now it seems that the strings and the pickup's polepieces do not align at all, the pickup is simply too small.
Do I need an F-spaced pickup for this guitar? I've never heard that Gibson used F-spaced ones, but it must be because the original pickup fitted perfectly. And the SD pickup also fitted in an old Epiphone LP Std that I sold a few years ago. Aren't the LP and Sg related guitars?
