Good heavy metal pickups for RG550ex?

Hi, I want to change pickups (two humbuckers and a single coil) on my RG550ex. Right now I have the standard ones (S/V7 and V. What are good pickups for thrash metal (such as early Metallica etc.)?

I've had a Lawrence XL500 a EMG81, and 85, a Duncan Distortion, Tone Zone and others. The Evo in my 570 kills them all. I'd get a Evo 2. In the basswood they sound much fuller sounding than in a alder jem, which I also have. I play Slayer, Megadeth, and Metallica and it does them all well.

It's a hard choice sometimes, but most people I know seem to be more than fine with EMG's.

Re: Good heavy metal pickups for RG550ex?

Allright, thanks for the input everyone. I've decided to go for an EMG-81 in the neck, as it's available locally and the reviews it has received at harmony central indicates it's a suitable and a very good humbucker.

Will it fit in my RG without having to do any modifications though? Where does the battery go etc.?

Most of the time some routing may be required. Just to free-up some space.

But I have heard reports of people being able to cram it all in.

I have had EMGs in a Roadstar II (RG410), RG560, RG520 and RG1570 and never had to modify any of them. There is room in the conrol cavity for the battery.
