Gravity Storms + Fast track 1 = all around goodness

Swapped out a hum-cancelling Dimarzio "single" coil, the HS-3, for a Fast Track1 and am really, really pleased with the results. Out of all of my Dimarzio-equipped guitars, this set takes the least amount of dial in time to get a good sound, either through a tube amp or an Eleven Rack. They really sound good through most patches.

The Fast Track has a more balanced output with the Gravity Storms and there isn't a large drop in volume that i had with the HS3.

I have two other non-Ibby guitars with what I consider to be great pickups, a PRS with ReWind Creme Brûlée's and a Thinline Telecaster with Kent Armstrong hot P90's. The Gravity Storms, in a mahogany bodied S5470 are easier to dial in than all of them. It's almost hard to make them sound bad!

The EVO middle (ISCV2) was intended to balance with the original Evolution pickups and produce acoustic-like sounds in positions 2 and 4, hence the low output. I keep a couple of ISCV2 models around for just that reason.

I've never tried Evo's or the ISCV2. Not sure what Dimarzio would recommend as a middle pickup but I'm pretty satisfied with the Fast Track in there.

The Breed single is one of my favorite Dimarzio pickups.
It has a lot of output and good strat like tone.

Agreed. I have Breeds in my S1520 and do like them. For lack of a better term, they sound more brittle than the Gravity Storms and I do have to dial in a bit less treble with them. But they split really well.

I've got a set Joe S. humbuckers coming in (PAF Joe/Mo Joe), It'll be interesting to see how they compare. They were going into a square heel 540S I just acquired (and did a fret job, mini restoration on) but I have my eye on something else so I may be selling it. Might try the Joe S. in the 1520 since it'll be a direct swap, same wiring scheme and I can evaluate in the same guitar.

The Mo'Joe doesn't sound great in Mahogany...at least, from the clips that I heard so far of it. Always a bit muddy.

The Fast Track 1 is fantastic though. I have it together with a Chopper and a Crunch Lab and it's a really great setup.

Great, now you tell me!....well I've been waiting for these damn pickup rings to come in for over a week. Looks like the post office lost them. Eight days to get from the east to the west coast of Florida. So I'm going to just button her up and stick with the god awful chrome rings for now so I can try out the PAF Joe/MoJo combo. Tired of waiting!

So you're using which in the neck position, Fast track or chopper? I just picked up an FGM400 with two single-sized hums in the neck/middle and I may swap something else in there.

Chopper in the neck, Fast Track in the middle. The chopper is higher output and balances much better with the CrunchLab.
