Green Steve Vai set. Help me ID?

I got a deal today. Some dude wanted purple pickups in his swirl Jem so he bought a set of Breeds. The tech who did the work got to keep the green HSH pickups. I got them for $50.00. I thought they were Breed's but they are not hot enough.

They are real Dimarzios. Pink bobbins but painted Green (I believe this is stock. The paint is thick, smooth and nice).

Neck (based upon lead length = the longest lead) reads 8.69 in series. Split = 4.35

Bridge series = 8.58. Split = 4.28

Single = 5.2

I am thinking they are low output PAFs. I am a little disappointed, but Gilbert plays Pafs so I'll give them a try. Pics later.

I think the PAFs will probagbly work better with my Super Reverb.

No numbers on the bottom? Anything like DP151 or something?

Re: Green Steve Vai set. Help me ID?

No. I'll post a pic later. I think they are from a Ibanez JEM777VBK. I noticed others on this board have had painted knobs and whatnot. I was worried I got hosed, but I'll bet they were not marked because they were in the Jem. Of course I am not an expert.

My camera is coming home in a few minutes...

Top and bottom. No label. Probably the stickers got peeled off. They measure close to the PAF, but my meter could be off by a certain percent. It is digital so it is not likely that it is off by 2 K.

mine both have that labelling (89 and 90 jem).

Re: Green Steve Vai set. Help me ID?

Is it a sticker or engraved? My Evo has a sticker. There is evidence they were wired backwards (red and green together), (white and shield together) which leads me to believe (no pun intended) that the black was hot.

I was looking at the DiMarzio diag and it is basically backwards from this although the way I described would technically work. I have been playng on these and they are nice. I think I'll stay low output forever. I am convinced. It is nice to have a bridge pickup that works for clean. I know I already said that, but man... all of these years... gone...

Re: Green Steve Vai set. Help me ID?

If they came out of a stock Jem they could say anything on them; they could be marked with the standard numbers or not. If they're from a 777VBK they are Paf Pros, and a Jem single. Lots of stock DiMarzios are labeled differently than they are if you buy them new when they get taken out of Ibanezes.
If you're really disappointed I'll give you $60 bucks for the set

No way Jose. I love them. I might swap them out later for a different color, but the PAF Pros are here to stay. I should have got them sooner. Now if you want a new Evo and H from H...

I'll have to check out how to list them here.

Thanks Jim!

I have PAFs with an S-1 engraved on my VBK. Not sure if they are originals but they aren't marked with DPxxx.

The paint is after market on the pups where the knobs that are painted are possibly originals.

Re: Green Steve Vai set. Help me ID?

The S1 is Satriani 1 [PAF Pro], the JEM's should be labeled V1's, but I've seen quite a few where either the black coat was so thick it covered the stamps, or they were never stamped to begin with.

Re: Green Steve Vai set. Help me ID?

So the paintedness of it suggests it was on any of the Pink Pickup Jems, but it was painted by ??? The original owner? I think it must be from a Jem777VBK. The catalog picture makes it look like I am right, but the pictures on Jemsite make me look wrong.

Man. I'd have liked them better pink!

Re: Green Steve Vai set. Help me ID?

I need to change pots in my VBK so I'll check them when I do. It has been so long since I opened it up, I could be wrong and mine are most likely after market. Thanks for the info Rich.

Re: Green Steve Vai set. Help me ID?

Pink or Green pickups out of a stock JEM???

PAF-Pros.

To my knowledge: that's the only pink/green pickups installed in stock JEMs over the years.
