Grounding on non trem guitars?

hi..

I notice on all my ibanez', theres a wire connecting the ground lug of the volume pot to the trem claw, which is screwed into the wood... I originally presumed this was to ground the electronics to the wood of the guitar - this seemed believable, if a bit strange ... but it struck me earlier that it could be the other way round; grounding the trem and strings to the ground connection from the jack..

So basically what i'm asking is, is there any need (while building a non trem guitar) to screw a screw into the wood, and connect the ground lug to it?

Cheers

Rob

Necessary?

Recommended? Yes

I run a ground screwed into the shielded electronics cavity and one running under the fixed bridge.

Actually you're not grounding all that stuff to the wood. Wood is not a
conductor and had nowhere to send the noise too.

You're actually grounding the guitar to you!

The more conductive mass you can send that grounding too the more
noise you can get out of the signal line.

Any electric guitar should be grounded to the bridge and strings so it's
grounded to you.
