Harder than I thought......

I'm working on installing a pair of EMG's ( 81 and 85) on my Schecter 006 Deluxe. I have all the original instructions but I can't understand the gibberish on there. There are some parts that are not labeled, some wires trail off into a mysterious abyss, etc etc... After checking the Seymour Duncan site, and although these diagrams look a lot better, I can find none for 2 Active pickups with 1 volume, 1 tone, 1 3-way switch.

I have space in there for a battery so that's one thing off my check list. I installed the quarter inch jack and soldered the black wire from it to the tone pot but thats about it. I'm surprised at how little info there is online about installing these pickups. All the topics I found all state to just go pay someone else to do it.

We're in a recession people! I'm counting my pennies! Haha. Seriously though, any help would be deeply appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Re: Harder than I thought......

Use this diagram.

Black from you jack goes to the battery, and the reds from your pickups go to the red lead (positive) on the battery clip.

Your pickups should have the two 25k tone and volume pots. Use some wires to connect up like the diagram shows in that fashion. The square looking object that runs between them is a capacitor.

Run a jumper wire from position 1 to 2 to 6 to 5. Also, you are grounding out the pickups by soldering the braid to the pot, so there is no need to run an extra ground to the trem claw or any other place.

It should be pretty straightforward if you try to connect everything as shown.

Maybe if you hit a snag, you can ask a more specific question and we can see what we can do to help.

P.S. If you want to get the most out of your EMG's, you can do an 18 V mod, which is very easy, but let's get you started with this first.

Re: Harder than I thought......

This is great! Just what I needed. May I ask where you got it? I was going crazy looking for it. I saw something about an 18 V mod on another site. Does that mean I would need 2 9 volts? I figure if I'm going to do something might as well just do it once. Does it make a big difference? I have a Mesa Boogie Trip Rect so I would love to get these going at their best. Thanks for the help!!

I personally think it makes a difference. It's very easy, you'll need an extra battery clip, and another battery.

Hook the new battery clip up in series with the other battery clip. I usually just unsolder the black going to the jack, solder that black wire to the new battery clip's red wire, and then solder the new battery clip's black wire to the jack where the original battery clip was.

You can get all of the EMG wiring diagrams and variations on their website.
