Has anybody tried a Fred in the neck?

I'm considering a Fred for the neck of my RGT42,I've got a Tone Zone in the bridge.Has anybody tried the Fred in the neck? What did it sound like? The Dimarzio site said the Fred would be a good match with the TZ in the bridge.

Re: Has anybody tried a Fred in the neck?

Steven, you should do a search on the subject. I asked this question about the Fred and the Norton about 2-3 weeks ago. I ended up ordering a Fred for the
PGM I'm getting painted right now and I might order a Norton for my other PGM just to try something else.

Just to be clear, I haven't tried the Fred yet. That pickup won't be installed until I get the guitar back from its refinish.

Re: Has anybody tried a Fred in the neck?

I have a Fred at the neck position of a 1990 RG550 with a ToneZone at the bridge. I initially put it there because I had the Fred lying around from an other guitar that had an accident; just for experiment. I like it very much and have it on the guitar for 8 years now. I must note though that I have lowered it away from tha strings a little, since when it was at the same distance from the stings as the bridge TZ it was louder than the bridge pup.

If you do a search you might find a thread where it was discussed, and I talked about an "Air Fred" or "Fred Lite" as they called it in the old Frank Gambale guitars.

I didn't care for it in my RG550, it didn't have as much character compared to the Tone Zone in thr bridge.
I tired of it and actually like the original V1 Pup from Ibanez better.
