help on wiring active pickups to emg battery/output jack

hi,
im installing active emgs into a jem body, however the battery/output jack on the emgs isnt long enough to pass through the jem body. The jem output jack is about 2 inches compared to about 1/2 inch on the emg battery/output jack. Does anyone know if i can just wire the battery fitment onto the existing jem output jack?

The jack is different...the stock JEM jack is a mono jack, whereas the EMG has and NEEDS the stereo jack. The stereo jack acts as a battery switch. When you plug in a guitar cable, the battery is engaged to power the pickups' preamps. If you wire the EMGs to the mono jack, the battery connection will always be on, and your batteries will last very shortly. Likewise, if you put in a stereo jack, and forget to unplug your cable, the battery is draining. Always unplug your guitar!

You can get stereo versions of the jack in a Jem at any repair shop or electronics parts store...take the original jack with you, and tell them you need a stereo version that's identical...
