Help - Pickup ticking like a metronome

I put a Tone Zone in the bridge position in my RG1550. With the switch in the number 3, 4 and not as much 5 positions, there is a strange ticking noise that sounds like a metronome. I'm playing through my Bogner. When playing straight through clean (no gain) it's not there. When I use a distortion pedal it is very noticeable.

Any ideas?

You sure it's the pickup? Does it happen on the distortion channel with a different guitar? Different cable? Any pedals in the chain... process of elimination.

I hear a clicking sound when the battery in my distortion pedal is running low. You might want to check it.

Peace

Re: Help - Pickup ticking like a metronome

1) Is your middle pickup reverse wind/reverse polarity?

2) If you answered "Yes" to #1, did you wire up your switch so that the Tone Zone is split when it's combined with the single coil?

I ask these question because I'm trying to determine if you should be getting any hum-canceling in position #4.

Be aware that because the Tone Zone uses Dimarzio's Dual Resonance technology, it is more susceptible to hum/noise, especially when using it with distortion. It should never hum like a single coil but it won't ever be as hum free as a humbucker with symmetrically wound coils.

You're lucky. You paid for a pickup, but you got a pickup and a metronome all in one! Now you can always stay in time while playing!!!

... just a joke

That's funny sh*t!

I did all the aforementioned suggestions. It is isolated to this one guitar. I pulled the other pickups and it's gone. I'll start adding one at a time and figure it out.

Could it possibly be a capacitor charging and discharging?

That would make sense as to why it is at specific intervals.

Thanks for all the help from everyone.
