high vs low output

I was comparing a Dimarzio blaze to my PAF pro today. The Blaze definitely sounded heavier and had more sustain, however it was missing something that the PAF Pro had... I have found this is pretty much all pickups. The hotter you get it seems that something goes missing... especially noticeable in the lead playing. I play really heavy music through a mesa boogie... I gotta figure out what kind of pickups i like. The lower output pups are missing sustain and heaviness, but they have punch and tone that the higher outputs dont have... am I making sense... does anyone else hear this?

use the pickup finder on dimarzios website, you should find just what you want.

go with evolution. ha ha. gets heavy when you want it to, but it cuts through all the gain and stuff when its time for solos. it has a really nice voicing for solos. clear and loud without sounding trebly. good pickups....worth a shot...

I agree. Lower output pickups sound better but lack that sustain and crunch that the higher output pickups have. I guess a medium output pickup is the best trade off.

yes, I pretty much use PAF pro level output or lower all the time now, with the exception of breeds which a really nice..
I find that the less you drive into the amp, the more you can shape the final tone.
look a Gilbert, he dont use a high output pickup at all but has a great tone (now)
